How different are the bikes between 1980-82?

    The 80-81 service manual is correct EXCEPT where the information is superseded by the supplement. The factory book for the 82-83 is the 80-81 with the supplement stuck in front.

    They way you use it is to start with the supplement. If it's not covered there go to the 80-81 manual.

    If I recall correctly (manual is in the shop) the supplement covers:

    - Side stand safety circuit (new in 82) and new wiring diagrams and test procedures.

    - Tells you that the 82+ cam chain tensioner is automatic so to disregard servicing it.

    - Air assist forks (new in 82).

    - Additional tool required for carburetor synchronization (YICS new in 82).

    But to do basic maintenance I have all the books I need

    I also have the the Haynes book...

    I gotta say I'm pretty impressed by Haynes' section on carbs; way better than the factory book in that area.
