Could someone point me in the direction of how to disassemble the linkage on '82 XJ750 carb assembly?

I've been able to remove the circlips on carb #1 & 4, as I'm prepping to boil everything clean -- but I've hit an impasse on the linkage / butterfly bar assembly

I keep staring at it, hoping I'd realize the trick, but especially for #1 & 4, I just dont see how to remove that butterfly shaft from the carb body.

Example image of the linkage on the right side of the carb

Does this just get hammered out?

It looks like a rivet was hammered flat with no way of removing it.

Carb #1 had a filthy, pitch-black circlip and seal/washer, so I'd like to get all of this clean enough to reassemble with new seals and no leaks - which is where I assume a good chunk of this old nasty grease/grime/crud came from.

Good that you took pictures, pay special attention to the orientation of the springs. They are held together two ways, with a bolt on two, and an E-clip on the other two, think the clips are on the two which are one the outside carbs, 1 + 4 .

Carefully unscrew the two screws on each butterfly, plan on putting new replacement ones in.
Get all the V- seals from Chacal, Eight total.
There are also these plastic like washers, think there was seven because one of the carbs actually uses a large spacer made out of the same material. But anyways, Clean them up nice soapy water and try to reuse them if they don't have scrapes they should be fine.

I also sanded the butterfly shafts with 600 wet or dry paper finished on 1500 grit. I cleaned out the V-seal holes really nice too, rub some PURE silicone, I use a brake caliper grease from napa on the new seals.

The shafts are also different, the E-clip ones are all one piece as the two inners have the shaft that separates from the spring guide, don't forget to take out the butterfly plate with the two screws those shafts should slide out with no resistance.
    HAVE FUN !!

I guess I dont follow. In Pic #2, I've taken the E-clip (circlip?) off of #4, butterfly valves unscrewed, labeled, and removed - but the shaft wont "slide out"

PIC #2, You should be able to remove the e-clip and the plastic washer, then pick out the seal. The assembly should then just slide out.

PIC #3, that is supposed to be that way. That part of the assembly stays together. There is also a seal on that side, under the metal bracket.

Sometimes it is hard to push out because of the seals being rotted to the shaft, but it still should not take tremendous force to remove it.

A note on the seals, they are not an Oring, there are more square on the sealing side. Make sure you replace with the proper item.

Well, it seems Carb 2 & 3 assemblies/nuts were so stuck I bent the spring armature while ratcheting the nut off! (no damage to the spring itself). Nothing a trusty pliers couldn't bend back. Some creative screwdriver placement in between armature and carb body helped in this removal.

    Agreed, 2 & 3 needed "persuasion" with a rubber mallet. :p

This is what all but 3 of the seals looked like.

Turns out all that grime and crud I mentioned earlier -- was in fact melted rubber seals!

Well, I was mildly annoyed when I did it and THEN took pictures of it when I was writing the file up... as I've mentioned in other threads, yes, I could have fixed the error in the file. I thought the humor would be a nice touch.
