I HAVE A 81'YAMAHA XJ 750 SECA R MOTORCYCLE WHERE THE FRAME SERIAL# AND THE ENGINE SERIAL# DO NOT MATCH? THE FRAME SERIAL# MATCHES THE TITLE BUT THE ENGINE SERIAL# DOESN'T. I ASSUME THAT AT SOME POINT BEFORE I PURCHASED THE BIKE THE ENGINE HAD BEEN REPLACED? BECAUSE OF THIS IF I AM RIGHT MY QUESTION IS HOW DO I FIND OUT BASED ON THE ENGINE SERIAL# STAMPED ON IT DO I FIND OUT WHAT YEAR IT WAS BUILT? I ASKED THIS QUESTION BEFORE BUT NO ONE ANSWERED MY QUESTION FOR SOME REASON? GRUNT 007, XJ 750 SECA R,MI.

Read chacal's post about model and VIN numbers and you will know what year bike the motor is from, but not when it was actually built.

Post the "shorty VIN" off the top of the transmission case and we'll help you decode it if you'd like.
