How does the oil level warning switch work?

I'm wiring up a Danmoto gauge and it has a light for oil pressure. The Radian has an oil level light. I want to use the warning light on the Danmoto as the oil level warning light.

There are two wires that go to the "idiot light" on the dash; Red/White and Black/Red. On the Radian, the Red/White wire has 12V when the key is on. The Black/Red wire isn't powered when the key is on.

How does the oil level sender work? Should I use the Black/Red so that I get a warning when the oil level switch is activated? The Danmoto has it's own 12V power and Ground, so I'm guessing that I don't need the constant 12V on the Red/White wire.

The bike isn't running yet, so I can't see what happens to the voltage on those two wires when the engine is running.
