I have saved another XJ650 from the junkheap but need some help to sort out an extremly loose timing chain.
I have removed the valve cover and the timing chain guide at the front of the engine appears to be intact.
I removed the timing chain adjuster and the adjuster was fully extended but not actually in contact with the rear timing chain guide.
I can put my finger into the timing chain adjuster opening and push the rear timing chain guide and tension the chain using my finger.
This has me wondering if the timing chain, which appears to have been changed recently, has been replaced with a chain that maybe has an extra link in it.
This is the only reason i can see as to why the timing chain adjuster is fully extended but not contacting the the rear timing chain guide.

I have counted 60 links in the chain.(i have counted the plates on the side of the chain)
Can anyone confirm if this would be the correct number of links??

    Thanks. Dave

Sorry i forgot to mention the bike is a 1981 650 Seca.

The bike is in original condition and definately worth trying to save.
