To keep me occupied during this winter one of my projects is to scan old photographs in order to have digital back-ups. I came across these pictures of my Seca from March of 1989. I've mentioned in the past that there was a period of time I didn't have a garage so my poor bike had to endure seven years of outside existence. Now you can see it's plight. :(

Don't ask me why I didn't put it in the shed that's in the pictures as I ask myself that often. Just not as wise back then I guess (not saying that I'm all that smart now, just not as dumb :) ). I'm just thankful it looks as good now as is does. And it's getting better all the time! :D

At least my kids and dog are enjoying the snow. :)

I'm betting you kept the Seca out there for the warm feeling of seeing it and knowing it's yours.

Tarps are BADDDDDD NEWS. There is a reason they make vehicle covers. Vehicle covers breath, tarps do not. Vehicle covers keep vehicles out of the elements but don't let water and ice to build up under neath it. Covering things with tarps holds moisture and speeds up oxidization and the earth will reclaim your bike that much faster.

if they are completely sealed they CAN be worse than nothing, on hot cold cycle/ morning dew, they act like a vapor barrier and trap any/all moisture unless its ratty and has holes in it. if you have a more interlaced tarp that is loosely woven it will allow the microscopic moisture to pass through it when evaporating thus protecting you ride.

cloth covers will adsorb moisture but it will evaporate off easily. (best used indoors to keep sunlight and dust particles from ruining your paint.)

best bet is a shed or garage.
