I was wondering if there is a simple way that I can check if the button is bad. I have a feeling that one of the safety switches are out (ie kick stand switch) and not the starter button. Any help would be appreciated.

First make sure you haven't moved the kill switch to the off position. Done that myself and took a few seconds to realize it.

You can take the grip off the right side and check for 12 volts at the blue wire. The button simply grounds the wire to the handle bar. The connection for the harness is under the tank just above the right coil and removing the grip is probably easier than removing the tank. If the wire has 12 volts, the switches are closed and the circuit is OK. Try using a jumper lead to reach a good ground point. The starter should spin if all the switches are closed.
