Hey everyone, noob here, From Aberdeen, SD. I just picked up my first Xj, an 81 550. I traded a non running Polaris XLT Special HO for it, over in Minneapolis last weekend. Bike runs, but sat outside for a year or two, but only has 6600 miles on it, and is all stock. Got it home, threw a new battery in it, and proceeded to start polishing the neglected chrome, etc....the seat is pretty poor, dry rotted and the cover is split, but I think I found a good replacement one locally, I'll find out this afternoon.

The bike needs a good weekend of TLC, and a couple hundred bucks thrown at it, but I'll have it all gussied up here in a week or two. Get new tires on it, lube up all the cables, that sort of thing. The gas tank has a good dent in it, if I can't find a good replacement, I'll pull the dent and repaint this one.
The bike is pretty faded, but I'm going to paint it a nice bright red, I already test-shot one of the side covers, should look pretty good!

I've owned a few other bikes, a couple Honda CB750s, some dirt bikes, etc, and lots of cars....the other thing in the back of my work truck last weekend on thet trip back was a 72 402 Big Block Chevy, that's going to be sitting between the fenders of my 70 Chevelle. That's next weeks project! Anyway, I jsut wanted to say hello, great site, and I look forward to learning and talking to you all!

PS--I REALLY like this bike a lot more than my old CB750 K2, it's lighter, quicker (I've heard!) and more comfortable--my older brother wanted a 550 when he graduated high school, so he thought it was pretty cool that I got one! Plus, my girlfriend likes it, so that's a plus! Have a good one, Justin

i have had my bike finished for just a couple of months and its a good little bike but it took me alot longer on the tlc for the chrome so good luck!
i found that putting pods on the carbs and running the bike gives you a better reaction. but there pretty fast little bike just about two weeks ago a 1996 ninja pulled up next to me and i left him sitting still....but anyways there alot of fun just get out there and ride!
