I guess I should do the obligatory "hi I'm new post", eh?

I'm so new I just got my XJ650 J last week. First bike, too. I'm 48 and never rode before, but I'm having a blast! I'd planned on taking the MSF course, but it isn't being offered in Louisiana at the moment, so I guess I'm teaching myself until it's offered again.

The bike is a black '82 model with mucho mileage, but it seems to have been well taken care of. I wanted a bike that was cheap, small enough to start on, but big enough so that I wouldn't start drooling over bigger bikes within the first six months. Seems like the perfect choice so far!

(To explain the handle, if any of you are jazz fans and frequent jazz BBS online, yeah, that's me! I'm just not creative enough to come up with another one! )

Welcome Jazzmoose. Must be nice to ride over winter months :?. I wish I could. I think you made an excellent choice on the motorcycle as it's inexpensive, plenty of power and it's good looking . Upload some pics of your ride into our picture gallery

I took my Motorcycle Safety Course in Minnesota and let me tell you. It was well worth it. I think every driver should take the classroom part of the course. I highly recommend it.

I agree; it probably ought to be a requirement for liscencing. As soon as it's offered again (it was suspended due to Katrina, etc. draining the state budget I'm told), I'll be there!

I'll have to figure out the wife's digital camera so I can post a picture of my baby. :D
