Re: 2 quick ques. regarding the bike I want to buy....

After looking around, I would say $1800 is a little low for the condition its in... I wouldnt sell mine for anything less than $1500 and its nowhere near that clean...

As for the year, yes, that would be an 86. Most vehicles (for example the 64 1/2 mustang... they were 65 model year, not 64) work that way.

    CONGRATS VINCE!
Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks AWESOME

    Welcome to the club.

Get yourself a bottle of the #1 and #2 and give the sheild a good cleaning and she'll clear right up.
    http://www.bestplasticcleaner.com/

Many glass and auto windshield places stock the stuff.

No fear, you got a great deal if it's runs half as good as it looks.

BUT I just noticed >>> The seats are NOT stock!! That seat is for an XJ700X (has 6 buttons) the airhead only had one button so, you will need to send me that seat and I'll replace it with the proper "airhead" seat (slightly more worn of course)

Thanks for the tip, Mike! I will do that. Now to find the guy on here with the polished alt cover..hmmm...LOL

Seriously, I will be in touch as I will take that cover now. I am going to get her this Sunday, and I will polish, clean, and love her up and then take some good high res photos with my pro camera.

    :)

    immediately check rear brake shoes regardless of who the PO was;

I have a BRAND NEW set of Dunlops on my 650 with about 200 miles on them; but they're 15 years old so the only place they're going is in the dumpster. CHECK YOUR DATE CODES!

and check the valves, again, regardless of who the PO was.

and welcome! Nice find; you gave a fair price. You certainly didn't overpay.

Hi XJ700 86.,thats one awesome maxim. Guess what check mine in the gallery..same colour..same month manufactured too. I enjoy owning it everytime i ride it, bought it last Feb. I am in the process of putting new tires on her with EBC shoes as well.
Desiner mike...i guess you are wrong on that seat as i hav same seats too. A local Maxim X owner told me the same thing as u said. I believe the bikes came with those seats in 1986.

Re: 2 quick ques. and an udate

Got her, better pics to follow. Shield is a Tracy Designs GAUNTLET. It is a light tint on top and darker towards the bottom, almost a purple-ish color.

shield isnt stock- MY 85 airhead engine is originally aluminum, i would assume the 86 was as well I believe your engine has been painted and the fins were ground/sanded down to give it that look, which i like.

the windshield is also not stock

Re: 2 quick ques. regarding the bike I want to buy....

It appears to be a 1986 model from the photos, and a bike built in 7/85 would most likely be a 1986 model.........

Re: 2 quick ques. regarding the bike I want to buy....

    Hmmm
Both my buddy's airheads have single button seats ('85 and '86)
and I've never seen an airhead with the 6 button seat confirmed stock.
Although...it's easy to convert if you do a seat cover change and it's only been 25 years since it rolled off the dealer floor

The buttons SUCK when you come out to the bike after a little rain. They are nice little cups to hold the water under your arse. (look good though IMO)

    need MORE PICS :)
Ok, you can wash it first
