Hey Ya'll, been a while. well, after giving 9 bikes new lease's on life these past 11 months I wanted to enjoy last years work and start to ride my one and only registered bike, my beutiful stubborn seca girl. So, after the past 2 and a half weeks of looking I'm finally giving in, I can't find the damn keys, of course the seat is down and locked too.

So what suggestions do ya'll have for me? Do I pay a locksmith to come and create a key from scratch for my existing cylinders? Or do I get some used stuff. But how the hell do I open the gas cap and get the seat up?

I think my X came back as this bike, I swear!

You have to go through all your clothes old and new + search the house meticulous. And think hard where it could be.
When you find it make a couple of spares, i have 3 sets in all. Why? Well no need to answer that.
    - Not the most splendid advice, sorry.

Come to think of it, when i got my 2 new sets of keys, the locksmith (who has quite advanced equipment) just typed in the number of my original key and made a key on his computerized machine. So if that is true, somewhere at Yamaha there must be a register with the Chassis Number and the right key number and so on. It is a longshot but could be possible - Chacal must know, try to mail him.

hehe, i only mention it becuase it has happened to a couple people I know, myself included.

At least you didnt lock them in the rear luggage rack like a buddy of mine did a couple hundred miles from home. One of the "local" fellas helped him pick the lock for a couple bucks. Good times......

You will need to get new keys made, so call a local locksmith and see what they have to say about it. Unless they can make you a copy from a master set they might have the cheapest solution will be for you to remove your ignition cylinder and take it to them.

Trying to open the gas cap with anything other than a Yamaha key will make matters worse, so don't try it. If you wanted to try to get your seat up, it is possible a locksmith can try to pick it for you, but now your paying for the onsite visit, so you may as well have him make the key for you while he is there.

Do you have another Yamaha key for another bike you can try in the seat lock. Put the key in gently and just before it is fully inserted wiggle the key back and forth and it "might" work to unlock the seat. This may also work for the gas cap but most certainly not for the ignition switch.

    Hope this helps... good luck.

thanks Saber, we were on the same wavelength. I called a local locksmith and I'm bringing them my ignition cylinder and they'll make a key for $45. That Key Should fit the other two little guys. at this point, it's worth 45 bux, i dont even care if I find it one day, I Wanna Ride!

WOOOO HOOOOO. how bout this, I brought the ignition to a local locksmith, he read the #'s engraved on the back, looked it up, and cut the key to the code! Blind! first shot, works smooth as silk, all 3 things, gas cap, seat, ignition, 2 keys - THIRTY DOLLARS!!!

I have about a half dozen keys for my bike sprinkle around my life. One in my locker at work, one in my tool box, one on my dresser, one on my keychain, one taped inside the headlight bucket of my bike (got that idea when I found it in a parts bike I bought that "had no key") and then there is the one I actually USE for her with a Yamaha key fob. My take on it is pretty far over the top but you get the idea. NEVER been without a key even when I lose the first spare in the line-up.
