Ok, I have been asking many much people for help, looked on the internet and i still havent wired my bike. Could sombody please for the love of sweet baby jesus supply me with a basic motorcycle wiring diagram that is dumbed down as much as possible, preferably one that just has all the wires i need to get it running, have a kill switch and a headlight. If somebody can draw something in ms paint or something i would be more than greatful.

    Thanks in advance

PS. If you could let me know what guage wire i will need for each thing that would be a big help also.

Tall order! Let's start with what kind of bike you're trying to wire. Year? Make? Model?

I doubt that there are very many who can wire an XJ-Bike without a comprehensive, color-coded, wiring diagram.

The Ignition Circuit, with more than a half a dozen wires going to the TCI, Starter and Coils can stump anyone who does not have many, many years of experience wiring these bikes.

The stock wiring harness, with the exception of the Fuse Panel, is so well made that having to do wiring was unnecessary ... therefore, the number of individuals with these bikes have been treated to a system not needing attention.

You're in for a long day at camp having to wire a bike from scratch.
I think your best served getting a wiring harness and plugging-in what you need and ignoring what you don't.

I'm gonna side with Rick here. There is nothing but trouble awaiting a "strip-n-crimp, bare bones" wiring job.

In my past experiences with trying to re-harness a bike without a wiring diagram, it wasn't that hard. When you lay out the harness on the bike in the general area it's supposed to be, most of the wires are made to a certain length and all have a unique color w/ colored stripe.....so they pretty much lay out right were they need to go. The bundle of connectors in the headlight bucket are all shaped differently so you can't go wrong there. Other than that, it's just a game of hunting down all the single wires for things like the signals, brake lights and the grounds.

Sometimes wire colors get faded over time, so a green wire with a pink stripe on the harness might look slighty different than it's mate on the bike....so you might pop a few fuses in the process, overall it shouldn't be that bad. Good luck

I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm sure it can and probably has by some of those who chopped a Yamaha XJ Bike.

My main reason for saying it will be difficult relies on the wiring diagrams available to the public.

Even the Factory Manual's wiring diagram are printed in Black and White with very difficult to trace circuitry. You need the patience of a Saint to trace a Circuit.

Having an enlargement of the Diagram doesn't help much ... the schematic is only two-color and the paths are easily confused.
I would consult with a Dealership and inquire about having them loan you a Shop Diagram, in color, and make a Color Copy of the sheet.

Some Copy Centers can make a HUGE enlargement that you could tape together and take the mystery out of doing a Custom Wiring job on one of these bikes.

huh...interesting. My Clymer has full color wiring diagrams that match the actual wire colors. It's a cinch to trace a circuit.

    nah, paperback. ISBN: 0-89287-372-8

    AMAZON

It is for the 1981-1985 XJ550 & FJ600. Clymer M387, with "Exclusive Full Color Wiring Diagrams"

Oddly enough, I just noticed the front cover of the one with the same ISBN at Amazon is different. It doesn't seem to have the color diagrams. That stinks. Looks like I got a rare edition.
