Soo, not an XJ.. Not even close.
But I like this one and the xj550 looked so lonely ^_^

Two cylinders less but twice the power,
It's a sweet bike, and gives me something to ride when I'm tinkering with the 550 :)

Oh, you'll be "tinkering" with that one quite a bit too. Wait until you have to adjust the valves.

No harder to do than any shim under bucket Jap bike, the whole thing about Ducati servicing is largely myth when applied to their late model bikes

Are you sure? That's still an air/oil cooled 900ss engine under there. The heads on those are nothing like the DOHC Jap stuff. I'm not saying they're impossible, but the desmo valve train does require at least a little more patience to set up properly, and a steady hand to keep those rockers in place. The cam belts need changing every two years regardless of mileage so make sure it's been done.

In spite of that they are a great handling bike.

i thought those cams were run by gears but i've only seen one torn apart.
then i went outside and give the Seca a little pat in the tank :)

Some are, some by toothed belt. That's not the "fiddly" part.

The Desmodromic valve train doesn't use valve springs (except for starting.) The rockers/lifters both open and CLOSE the valves, mechanically.

Valve adjustment (in the earlier motors anyway) involved replacing little collars on the valves with different little collars with thicker or thinner "rims" for the closing lifter to lift against. They may have devised a more easily adjustable configuration by now, can't say.

Valves notwithstanding, sure is a pretty bike. Very nice.

    Congrats.

I'd love an XJ with a late model sport bike as a pair, and why not a cruiser too, but those two first, both you and Brad do, and I'm sure many others here too.
    Legit.
