I posted a week or two ago asking for help regarding my hi idle when warm. I was out of town for a few days but last night was able to get back to it and the bike, she is running great!

I tried everything (looking for air leaks, checking the slides and diaphrams, checking cables, syncing the carbs, etc, etc) to no avail. Early last week I drilled out the "anti-tamper" plugs covering my mixture screws and found that most of the screws were only out about 2 turns. From looking at my plugs I had thought I might be running a bit lean. I opened them up to 2 3/4 turns and waited for my colortune to come it. Yesterday it arrived and after adjusting the mixtures with the colortune and doing a second sync, she idles quite nice! Now my mixture screws are arround the 3 turns mark. I am thinking that this could be an indication that a good carb cleaning would be helpful, but I am hoping to put that off till after riding season. She developes great power on the road and now idles quite nice at about 1,100.

One note I will make is that I did all this with out the YICS tool. I did the sync and adjusted the mixtures at about 1500rpm to try and lessen the affects of not having the tool, but it seems to me that I would be able to get better results WITH the YICS tool in place. Both for the mixture adjustement and for the carb sync. Especialy when adjusting the first few carbs I seemed to be getting some sparatic results at times. Anyway, when i get a chance to do a bit more tuning WITH the tool I will likely post results.

Thanks to all on this board who helps us all out in getting our bikes just right!

I wouldn't say they need a cleaning based on the turns. 3 turns is about right.

The YICS will help but as long as you were able to get the flame to show some yellow and then take in back down to blue you should be allright. If you decide to retune with the YICS please post your findings. This would invaluable info for me and my fellow XJer's.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on the "factorty" setting I thought that three turns might be a bit on the excessive side. I feel better hearing that it's not that bad. :)

I'm not sure how soon I will try re-tuning everyting with the YICS tool. It's running good right now and I'm going to be out of the country for a few months here in another couple weeks or so. I deffinatley will get arround to it at some point and I will be sure to make note of my findings at that time. Something tells me that I would be able to be a bit more accurate with the tool in place.

    Anyway, take care!
