Well I sold my xj today. :( I really hated to do it, but my girlfriend wants to ride with me so I need something bigger with a backrest. I found a Honda Shadow I am going to check out. I would love to find another xj but I cant find one right now, I am sure I will have another one one day. I will still be around asking questions and giving advice. Thanks for everyones help. I learned alot working on my xj and I have much more knowledge of motorcycles now.

    Thanks,
    Jarred Daughtry

Hey jarred, you're lookin' in the right direction for a new bike... 8) but then again I might be a little prejudiced :D .
If you go with the Shadow let me know, I'll give you a forum dedicated to Shadows....not that we want you to be a stranger here :)

I have rode quite a few older shadow 700s and I dont really remember it having a much better rear seat. I would have just put a backrest on the xj. You are gonna miss the power of the xj compared to the shadow I promise.

I did get the shadow, I am now its new owner and I am very happy with it. It requires alot less maintenance than the maxim.

Organizedinsanity-The shadow has as much if not more power than the maxim. The engine is also alot less noisy and it runs very smooth and strong. Some things on the maxim that need constant adjustment never need to be touched on the shadow. The cam chain and valves are also adjusted automatically.

Actually the shadow makes me happier than the xj ever did. I got tired of the never-ending tuning. The maxim cant touch this bike.

Ouch! Hard to get happy with your Maxim after that!

I too have a 2nd love interest in my life. But, like Jello, there's always room for My Maxim!!!

Jarred let's be fair - you just got your maxim tuned right - 3 days before you sold her. Once you slay all the issues they run very well - I have only done minor tuning in over a year after I got her running right.

Yes Bill you are correct, but I will take the maxim as a learning experience. I just got back from a 300 mile cruise on the shadow and it is safe to say I love this bike. I thoght it was probably the best time to sell the maxim because it WAS running right. I didnt know what to except from that bike.
