Have all the classic symptoms of ignition coil breakdown. Offload will rev to red line. On road under load 5500 max then it starts to bang and splutter.
Sourcing a pair of these is a nightmare.....
Can someone please confirm the hole spacing on the coil fixing points centre to centre on a 1985/6 xj 700.
    Tearing out my hair.

In the past two years there has been an ever-increasing number of Bad Coil instances.

I'm inclined to believe that they have reached their life expectancy, ... (Similar to the Self Destructing Fuse Panels.

    2-Cents.

Replace the Coils with QUALITY Aftermarket Coils.
Used Coils are as old as the one which have failed.

Ric have purchased items from Chacal before and the quality of product cannot be faulted....

Wouldn't dream of replacing electrical components with used electrical components...

At the same time these are proprietary items and we have bucket loads of electrical component suppliers who can supply this side of the pond...... In order to ensure they supply the correct item I wanted to verify, with another xj 700 owner, the distance between hole centres of the mounting points on a standard xj700 frame......

    Can anyone assist me please

Plugs, caps and ht leads were all replaced in the last three months. Thanks for your suggestion.....

I just need some one to measure the distance between the two bolts that hold the the coil to the frame...... Hole centre to hole centre

    Thanks

Center to center, I measured roughly 3.35 inches or 85 mm.
