Ignition problems

    I am working on reviving my 82 Seca after a 2 year slumber, I pulled and cleaned the carbs so thats not an issue. I have no/weak spark on cylinders 2&3. I tested the coil and I think its bad. Honestly, I am a moron when it comes to electrical systems. If its mechanical no problem. So I can't say I am confident about my testing procedures. However I did pick up a coil from a local cycle salvage. Assuming the coil isn't the issue, what would be more likely to go the CDI or pick up coils and how do I test? I have the Haynes manual but like I said, electric systems and me .. not so good. Thanks for the help

    Swap the Plug-in's from the Coils to the wiring harness and see if the problem switches to 1 and 4 ...

    If is does you have a good idea that the Coil is involved.

    Can you use a Teat Light and a Multi-meter OK?
    We could walk you through a few diagnostic tests.

    do your electromechanical stuff first, plug in the tci 3 or 4 times take the coils off and shine up the mount points, if the sparkplug caps unscrew snip off 1/4 inch of the wire and screw them back on
    just go over it and make everything clean and tight and see if that helps

    I never really learned to use a multimeter too well. I get the basics but thats about it

    Oh Kenbo... Here is your chance. Dan, contact Kenbo, I think he just posted a how-to recently. If it isn't in the system, I'm sure he'll hook you up with a good file that will help you out.

    thanks for the clue, I watched the youtube video and that helped quite a bit. So now I replaced the coil and I have spark at all four plugs. Now I need to get a couple new plugs and I can give it a try.

    Next question is should I go to a hotter plug? I am using the stock NGK BP7ES, is there an advantage to switching to the BP5ES?

    No advantage to a hotter plug, in fact, it's a dis-advantage. Stock with the stock plug, if everything else within the system os okay stock plugs work just fine!

    I caught the "tube" video too. While they didn't have me laughting too much, they weren't boring. Good video for folks with questions.
