After months of searching I still cannot find my stash of old bikes pictures that I have owned.

What I did find was a negative of my old GT550. That is why the image is so poor. It is a scan of a negative, with the colours inverted and saved at a high resolution so I could magnify it. One day I will go the the photo store and have it developed again but thought I'd post it here first.

It was a 1977 GT550A, with 3 into 3 expansion chambers, clubman bars and a Dunstall 3/4 fairing

The bike wasn't particularly fast but sounded glorious! I was only 17 and the bike cost as much to insure - in 1982 - as it did to buy.

Now you understand why I kept banging on about them, schooter?

No need to apologise! It actually hurts to look at it still. I liked the "Mad Max" comment - never mind Harley riders who won't wave, when I owned the bike, a LAVERDA JOTA rider waved to me!

The guy I sold it to had a car driver turn across him and write the bike off so it went to heaven.

    Sigh.....

PS Eagle eyed Brits will spot the red Austin Maxi in the background...am I really that old?

Took me 2 days to be able to look at this from home so I could see the pic.

Paul Dunstall made BY FAR, the best looking fairings back in the day and even compared to Airtech and the like, they still look better to me. We ran a full fairing on our GT that was very similar to yours. Ours didn't have the lip around the light.

Markie, you were one of a very few that modded a GT550 but I'm sure you already knew how alone you were. Great looking bike snd while it wasn't that fast as it came from the factory....every GT rider i knew took pride in the fact that he'd still be riding his GT long after his buddies H1's and H2's were thrown away. Suzuki engineered the GT series bikes so well that their really only limiting factor in racking up huge mileage is that the pistons will begin to disintegrate around 40-45k or so. I have one friend that bought his GT brand new in 1974 and it has 58K on it......and he finally replaced the ORIGINAL rings at 42K, Didn't need to be bored, he honed and put in new stock size rings and pistons mostly because I had put the fear of God into him. The only ones were a little out of spec but in great shape, especially for being so old.

Thanks for the pic and if you want, let me know and I'll send you a link to a utube of my gt550 that I restored/ported etc last winter. I didn't want to post it now and take anything away from a great picture from yesteryear!!
