guys i really need your help with this critter. start the bike in the morning runs great, idles and does everything perfectly. about 25 to 30 klms down the road she starts to drop power. checked the fuel system (now fully over hauled) replaced the plugs tested the coils and changed them over and back again. so now i am leaning towards the pick up coil assembly having a heart attack. your thoughts please

Are your fuse holders been updated to blade fuse style?

thanks for the replies, fuses have been replaced with blade type and the lights stay on even with the power loss, what i did find was some contact marks on the lower pickup coil, so i have cleaned the coil faces and rotor and adjusted the mounting plate as low in the recess as it would allow hopefully this might be the end of the dramas. opinions please guys

I think we have a winner here, folks.

Exactly the same thing that was happening to mine; bopping along down the road, and the thing dies like you hit the kill switch. I think this page is also on the XJCD, but I'll post the link here. You'll be wanting soldering skills and some electronic parts, but if what you tried doesn't help, this might do the trick. After doing mine, I haven't had a lick of trouble out of mine since.

    Dave Jack's TCI repair page

If you decide to do this, or have someone do it for you, please bear in mind that the layout and component values may differ from those shown on the page, as mine did.

update on power problems. how big a goose do i feel, still had the same problem but a little further up the road this time , about turn head for home and get set to use a bigger hammer(see profile) thought better of that then decided to recheck pick up coils again only to find the resistance had all but vanished. instead reading up near 700 ohms the both were down near the 135 ohms mark. its a wonder the damn thing ran at all. i have changed them out with another set i had laying about, take a quick shower and test ride and update when i get back
