    Hey guys.
When I turn the engine on, i can hear some rattling or knocking coming out from the cylinder. I don't know if that's how it should sound or there is something wrong, I was thinking maybe the valves.
here is the video, you can hear it yourself:

and also the lights gets brighter on higher rpm. is it normal?

Kinda hard to tell from the video, but to me it almost sounds like an exhaust leak. Check both ends of all 4 header pipes. Just a guess anyway.

    Sounds like a exhaust leak.

Tape a little tissue "Flag" on the end of a long screwdriver.
Put the Flag around any suspected leak and look for it to "Flutter" when the Flag gets close to the leak.

Sooner or later you are going to have to replace or treat an Exhaust Header Flange Donut.

If the Donut is burned right through ... New Donuts.
If the thing is just leaking a little bit ...

"You Can Get Away With" ... giving them "The Treatment"

Two heavy coats of Copper Coat High-Tack Spray-a-Gasket.

    DANGER
    WARNING

If the Collar Nuts are Seized -- Do NOT Break an Exhaust Stud.
    Get a Dremel Tool.
Cut through the Nut on a slant ... lengthwise.
Once you have the Nut cut nearly through to the stud ...
Use a Chisel and Split it Open.

You can buy BETTER Nuts than are on there at a Auto Parts Store.

The name of the game is: "Stay Un-Flocked"
Break-off a Stud and ... "You are flocked"

i totally agree with rick sounds like an exhaust leak to me . usually if its a rod or crank hammering you can tell. the motor sounds pretty good. get yourself a stethascope listen around with it . also if you think its a wrist pin or brg pull the plug wire off that cyl usually it will stop hammering but i dont think its a brg. listen to this video http://s410.photobucket.com/albums/pp18 ... V02523.flv this is something loose i still have to swap out the drag pipes for stockers so i can pin point it . best of luck

I vote for exhaust leak. I had one that sounded just like it. New donuts fixed it.

Cutlass, that sounds pretty bad. Horrible really. A lot like my Toyota after it spun a rod bearing.

Does it only happen when you first start it when the engine is cold? Mine has a slight knock to it 'till it gets some oil distributed to the top end. It only does that for about 5-10 seconds and then it quiets down. My Maxim has always been that way.

it doesn't matter if the engine is cold or warm, the noise is the same all the time
