The lock works on mine but not very well. I think the spring might be loose after all these years. I can take my seat off relatively easily with the seat lock on...not a good thing but haven't had a chance to look at it closely.

It can be fixed but probably requires some fine surgery.

On my bike there is a catch a little bit rearward from the lock.

If your bike has a lever near the lock, try turning the key all the way forward, and pushing the lever forward WHILE the key is turned. If the lever moves forward, your seat should be secured. Then simply rotate the key rearward to remove it from (and re-lock) the locking mechanism.

I can tell you that my lock doesn't work. I didn't realize it until somebody here was complaining about it and I tried taking my seat off without unlocking it first. I haven't bothered to dig into it to see what's wrong. I just keep my license and registration in my lockable trunk.

Uhm yeah you should. You can/will get pulled over and they want your registration and insurance just like when you're in your car. The officer will also want you to remove your helmet. Then he'll ask a bunch of questions about your bike and be so impressed you did all the work yourself and just give you a warning for rolling through the stop sign....... not that I know ..... yeah, ok, so I 'ran' a stop sign the other day.

Since I don't have an air box anymore I have a nifty space under my seat that I put a plastic container with my tool kit, papers, and other misc stuff. I velcro-ed my fuse box to it.

As far as the seat locking. Mine didn't lock at first either but after closer inspection things just were not lining up right. I had to bend the thing on the seat to get it to line up with the lock. That fixed the problem.

Huh. Well as soon as I get a lock and key on my New Ammo Can Saddlebags I'll put my junk in that trunk. Time to order the locking mechs!
