After almost 20 years of neglect in the garage she is running like a dream. New tires, brakes, plugs, fluids, 1 replaced mirror, a good carb clean, some chrome cleaning and a re-upholstered seat was all it took.
Still need to tune the carbs but other than that it runs better than I remember.

The members of this site tend to be picture craving maniacs, so posting pics and listing details of your bike in your signature tends to keep them happy...
    Welcome from Cleveland!

Thanks guys. Yeah I was riding my Royale Venture during that time. Here is a poor pic, I'll get more later.
    This bike is a 1985 XJ700.
This site was helpful in my carb cleaning and I plan to spend more time here as I dig into this bike more this winter.

Nice looking bike, but I'm partial to this style of XJ.

    Thanks.
Took a short ride last night and the rear brakes were binding up as I got close to home. I'll be checking them out this weekend. Sounded like I'll be getting into those valves as well.

"Short ride"? Binding Up? did you feel your brake hub or final drive housing?

Of course, the first question is did you replace your rear brake shoes? Old brake shoes are known to delaminate with age, regardless of mileage. If you didn't do that when resurrecting it, do it before you ride again.

If you heeded that warning, then the next thing I would check is your rear brake adjustment. When I got my 750 seca on the road for the first time, I miss adjusted the rear brake too tight, went for a ride that involved some highway running, and when I got home, the rear end smelled cooked and I couldn't lay a hand on the final drive. I deglazed the brake shoes and changed the final drive oil, are re-adjusted the brakes "loose" then tightened it after a ride until I was satisfied with the pedal action.

Short ride = about 20 miles to the DMV to register and back.
I did not replace the rears as they looked surprisingly good. After your post and reading some others I suspect the age of them and the sudden life (heat) is my issue. I will be replacing as soon as I can get some new shoes.
    Thanks for the tips.
