Well here is a video of my XJ running after 5 years of being neglected. I've had it for a little over a year now but ran out of funds for repairs. As you can hear from the video it sounds a little rough. It smells rich and the plugs, which are brand new, are black and that tells me it's running really rich. What color should I be looking for coming off my colortune? My mods are rejetted carbs 42 and 116 jets, pod filters, and chopped exhaust. Also when colortuning should I have my filters on or off? Does anyone have a video or pics of what I should be aiming for when colortuning? After that is done I'm going to sync my carbs then colortune again.

adjust mixture. sync carbs. and be done. no need for readjusting mixture. syncing the carbs is just adjusting that all 4 throttles are at the same level.

you don't drive the bike around with missing air filters. why would you adjust the carbs with missing filters?

your air fuel mixture is going to change if you adjust without the filters. then put the filters back on.
