After much agony and money spent. Including replacing the carbs I broke and tracking down carb joints. The bike fired tonight for the first time in 10 years. Now I just need to put the rest of it back together.

File me as a happy camper

That's a pretty cool feeling, isn't it? It give you one of those rare "My Hands Have been Touched By God" moments......when you are able to seemingly breath life itself into an old engine......then you come back down and realize that fuel, air, compression and a little spark at the right time.....Still pretty cool!!!!!

    Congrats!

now just take your time and put her together right so you can enjoy a hassle free riding experience when you do take her out for her first ride in 10 years :)

I am not sure if touched by God but pretty close. After snapping the bolts for the air joints.
We took it to my best friend. The guy with every tool known to man and a fact I had forgotten. He worked as a Yamaha mechanic in the 80's. He drilled out the bolts and retapped the jugs.

Now I am under direct adult supervision for the rest of this project:)

Funny exchanged when I showed up to his shop with bike in tow.

He says to me "It takes a special shim to adjust the valves"
I nod and sigh just feeling like Yippee more crap this bike is putting me through"
he continues to say "I have one" I reply yes but it takes a special tool to adjust the carbs on this damm thing" he says "I got one of those too"

So maybe not the hand of god directly but as close as you can get, when fixing things

I should add he is one of those guys who says "It will run when you leave here" You can bet money it will run when it leaves. I think I am good hands.

Sounds like your all set ;) just have him check that rear break while he's got it as well so when you ride it. It won't lock up on you .
