Hi guys...I saw a lot youtube videos of the xj and most of them have their mufflers modified in the best cases, other just plain no last phase or trumpet of the mufflers... I like the sound with out the last part of the muffler, but what is the con about doing this? in the other hand, some guys I saw they just installed a 3 or 4" pipe, paint it or wrap it and that's all...Is this not the same as have no mufflers at all? thanks...

any modifcation to the exhaust may require rejetting, and may make tuning and trouble shooting your problems a little harder.

Most of the bikes on Youtube are owned by people who think an open exhaust is the key to developing horsepower, and that louder=faster. Leave your exhausts stock unless you have access to one of the good aftermarket exhausts from the 80's (even those require rejetting and trade midrange power for peak power).

there is a "formula" but it only gives you a place to start.
it is in the information overload there is a link in K=moe signiture line

its about a third of the way down you will see somthing about pods first. to much to cut and paste.

then after you make the changes you will be doing plug chops to check the rich/lean condition
as well as changes depending on how the bike runs also may lead to slide needle changes.

And they go slower (because hardly anyone does any of the other things that need to be done when the mufflers come off (jetting is only one of those things)).

The engineers that designed these bikes were a lot smarter and had a lot more equipment than any of us. Keep it stock unless you just like to tinker all the time.
