    Hi Guys,
I have made a small oversight during my second ever carb rebuild.
The carbs are Mikuni from a XJ900RL

I have taken apart the plunger with the rubber diaphragm and now am unsure of the order of parts to reassemble it.

The issue is the exact location of the spring!

My logical deduction is the following construction (diagram A) with the spring above...
Theoretically this spring should allow the needle to move into the plunger a little, but what I found after putting it together like this, the spring is virtually completely compressed and doesn't move much any more.
IMG_20160520_0001a.jpg The only other way is like this (diagram B) but this is yet less logical since the needle is now jammed up under the cover plate!

I just want to confirm with someone who knows what is the correct assembly?

The service manual is not covering this with detail.
The best I could find in there is this explosion diagram. This diagram does suggest method A

    Diagram A is correct.

The needle will only move a little bit. Double-check to see if there is a little nub on the plastic ring around the needle. That nub lines up with a small hole in the bottom of the needle bore. Rotate the needle ( while lightly pulling on it)?with your fingers til you feel it drop that last little bit. NOW tighten the screws. If you don't do that, the needle will get jammed up, too ....

    It works
There is about 2 mm play in the needle now. I think that's right now.

    Many thanks again
