I have a question regarding the orientation of the jet needle that extends from the bottom of the piston. On my RJ, it is cocked at an angle - I seem to recall that someone wrote here it is that way to allow better atomization of the fuel into the air.

Now, on my LJ, while putting the carbs back together, I can't remember if they are supposed to be angled like my RJ or straight. There is a little nib at the top of the needle (on the needle clip) that will locate into a small hole in the bottom of the piston - this essentially orients the needle vertically and not at all at an angle (when the nib is in the hole).

Should the needle be vertical on the LJ and if so, what is the nib on the rubber adjuster on the needle for and likewise, the hole in the bottom of the piston?

Since I haven't worked on the turbo carbs I can only guess. But my instinct tells me that fitting the needle correctly into the piston is paramount. I suspect that once in the needle may fall into the familiar angled position once it is relaxed in the carb bore.

I'm fairly sure that the needle needs to be angled like the RJ. The needle clip has a little protusion that when it sits in the piston, cocks the needle to the side. I just can't figure out why the piston would have this little hole in the bottom I can put the clip protrustion in? Drainage maybe?

Regardless, I'm going to set them up angled.

Actually there is a small hole in the piston to allow air passage so the piston fall back down. This may be what you are talking about , but it would be off center of the piston.

Yes, that is the one! Okay, so that hole needs to be clear and the nib will angle the needle.

    Makes sense now.
    Thanks.
