Couldent think of a subject so there it is it's on topic now to topic. i dont know how meny of you are running jet'ed up bikes with out pod's or after market exaust or what your running. So here is a quick story yestertday morning i was thinking that my bike has been jet'ed up and had the cam re-worked (by:pO) so i was thinking there is no way it is getting enougfh air through the stock air box.

So i decided to take the air box off and cut out the down tube and cut 1" around where it was to allow more air for it being jet'ed up and camed up im sure it could use some. Well after i got done and put it back togather about 7am it was still cold enougfh that i would usually have to use eather to help it start turned the key pushed the button it turned over once and fired right up. Took it for a spin and by alowing more air in it unleashed a substansil ammount of power.

Found im getting better gasmilage now to im not on the throttel as much to main tain speed.

The next thing to do is re-work the exaust id buy after makret but i love the look's of a sleaper , or the lack there of look's plane sounds plane but wait for the go woohooo

Sounds good - just check you didn't go too lean. You have to setup the carbs for the current system - if it worked without the hole properly then it can't work now IF the hole has made any difference. I'm certain the hole would allow more airflow so you are almost certainly running leaner than you were. The question is: were you rich before or are you lean now?

Give the plugs a check for us - be interesting to know.

I'm surprised to hear that it improved bike starting.

What do lean and rich plugs look like and how do you adjust the mixture?

This is where the old Chiltons vehicle manuals were actually useful. They had a color sheet or two with pictures of sparkplug appearances ranging from to rich, correct, to lean, various deposit identifications, and physical damage. I would recommend if you happen across such a freebie, grab it if nothing else for the pages of photos. As for the mixture, adjustment is accomplished through two means. For coarse adjustment, you would substitute various main jets, larger numbers for richer mixtures (120's on my beast, 110's for others). For fine tuning, you would adjust the much feared air/fuel mixture screw located on top of the carbs, under the lead plug next to the cold start enrichment mechanisim (at least on the older XJ's). How's that to answer your question Sno?
