Can the cylinder block be removed with the engine in the frame?
The service manual does not specify. It details engine removal first but does not mention removing the engine in the details for head and jug removal.

It's apparent that the head will clear the frame but less so for the Jugs.

I do have the Yamaha factor service manual with RH supplement. I also have an e-manual from Haynes for the UK Seca.

this is only hearsay but when i got my bike a buddy of mine told me he had the same bike back in the days. if i remember correctly he said you can barely take the cylider block off without removing the engine.

    I don't think so.
My guess is that it depends on the Model and Size.
Measure the Jugs and see if the math is close.

    Even so, ...
Working on Pistons and Rings is a WHOLE lot easier with the Engine on a Bench so you don't have an uncomfortable and confined work space.
