for those of you doing rattle can paint jobs... if the can says "formulated for automotive use" it means that the paint will melt like hot butter when a drop of gas touches it. thought you should know.... back to the garage

If it comes in a rattle can - It will almost by necessity melt on contact with gas. Rattle cans have no hardener, like a two part automotive paint does. Thus it will melt every time.

Flash, Rattle can paint hardens by the solvents eveperating away from the paint after it is sprayed so if you use a rattle can base coat with a proper two part clear be sure to give your base sufficant time to dry or you could be faced with some issues as they will cure at very different rates A: the solvents for your base are succesful in escaping through your clear creating fish eyes, blemishes amd a poor overall finish OR B: the solvents are unsuccesful in their escape not allowing the base to cure creating an inablity of the clear to bond causeing severe flaking, (ever see the paint on a mid eightys domestic vehicle usualy ford or dodge flaking or peelling) just a heads up some people get away with it but most don't.

i used rust-oleum satin black spray bomb on my tank, and spilled on it several times......doesnt even get soft.

i once sprayed intercooler pipes with aluminum bare metal colored paint from XOrust, and brake clean washed it off as if it was water color paint. its a terrible feeling, makes you want to smash something doesnt it?!
