I took the bike out for a little spin today it was little chilly but been wanting to run her a little. Just got her warmed up and purring nice. I was leanning in a corner giving her a little throtle when some stupid little teenage girl on her cell phone decides to throw out her soda can half full. Well it didn't hit me but rolled right under my back tire, made my bike slid, it made my heart pound but I leaned her back up and everything was alright. I just couldn't belive that little girl was so stupid if I could have gotten turned around well it was probably better I didn't. Well I just wanted to vent a little!
    Thanks
    Marty

Heavens above! Glad you came out ok! Kids just haven't a clue. I'm sure she's never heard of Iron Eyes Cody. (in case your too young to know who he is, here is a link to the commercial http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/499/ . I know you don't Rick!).
Marty, time was that we as citizens of this world would politely let the offender know what was wrong with their actions. Now adays, we shirk our duty for fear of being sued. I'll be darned if I let the lessons of the past go ignored! Shoulda given her the what for at the next stop light!

No offence intended Robert but there lies the problem. Polite just doesn't cut it any more. Seems the only way to give the message these days is through methods we would have found intolerable a "few" years ago.

Seems education needs to be "forced" on some people or they will never learn anything.

Yes, it's a sad world we have created for our children.

I think in todays world, that ad would be modified with the native throwing his tomahawk at the car instead of crying, or edited to show exactly what happened here, a motorbike hitting the trash and going down. I don't know about anywhere else, but where I live there are some pretty extreme government ads running right now for stopping meth addictions.

But I have to agree with Robert, i'd probably have turned around and talked to the girl, but i don't think it would have been too politely. I think its impossible to get someone to stop littering, i've tried with friends without success. But to explain that if you are going to throw it out, watch where and when you throw it, it pisses me off seeing a total and complete lack of common sense. Of course, in todays world I wouldn't be suprised if she'd done it on purpose to see what would happen. "(to cellphone) Hey Donna, there's a guy on a bike coming up. i'm going to soak him with my half full can of pop, oh whoops..."

    Glad to hear your'e ok!

I wont harp on the condition of the world today, we all know how screwed up it is.

Glad you had your head about you.

I will harp a little about defensive riding though.

When we ride we can NEVER assume that the "other guy" is watching out for us.

Frankly, the dont give a DAMN

Always, consider that the other guy/gal is out to get you....especially those that seem the most harmless (like little old ladies/men or maybe even another biker behind the wheel)

    Safety is OUR/YOUR responsibility.

WAY TO GO MARTY, you did good man! You lived and did'nt even have to see the doctor!

    Sorry I harped a bit.

    OK I cant shut up,
In Mesa, Az this year we had to bury a motorcycle cop, a good family with kids and a wife.
He hit some construction trash that fell off of a truck. It wasn't even big but he went down and it was on the freeway in trafic going 65+ mph.

Well it was quite a large funeral.

And the story repeats itself over and over as riders forget that EVERYONE is out to GET YA

doesnt surprise me to hear someone threw a pop can out at a passing motorcyclist, ive just about seen everything. its not bad enough that we have to watch out for oil on the road, dead animals, live animals, poor road construction, crushed stone, bad weather, wet surfaces, tailgaters, on coming traffic, blind people, old people, young people with no driving experience, blind spots, people on cell phones thats just a small % you all know the rest.

when i drive my bike i drive it like am under the assumption that everyone on the road is gonna get me, i constantly scan the road and my enviroment to potential dangers and adjust my speed and course to compansate. i compare it to having one of them doppler radar dishes on my helmet constantly rotating.

driving under the assumption that someone is gonna kill me keeps me focused and allert and theres no doubt in my mind that Marty was focused the day that some little girl threw that pop can out the wind, if he wasnt then you all know what the out come could have been.

i have found over the years that allot (not all) of people have disregard for there own lives so you know that they will have zero for yours.

be safe everyone, well done Marty.

Thanks for the support. I bet I watch for those little girls more often than I have. Sure wish I had gotten a plate number.

yeh maybe getting a plate no. and reporting here to the cops might have gotten you a bit of satisfaction, especially when the fuzz show up at the door and talk to her dad about what happened, then again she must get that kind of behavior from someone?????
