Hey guys, checking in here. Just bought a 1980 Maxim 650 the other day. Had less than 11,000 miles on it and everything in good shape, pretty good deal for $700.

I do have an exhaust question that I'll ask here before starting a new thread. I've searched the forum a bit and found a few responses about using Harley mufflers. My bike has the baffles removed from the stock exhaust and it is just obscenely loud. The seller included what I believe are Harley Sportster mufflers, and they look like they slip on if I cut the old mufflers off, is this correct? I haven't measured the pipe diameters yet to know for sure. Also, the Harley mufflers have openings in the sides for the crossover pipe, is there an easy way to close these holes without bothering paying a welder?

Hello and welcome. Not sure about the crossovers, but the original mufflers don't have to be cut off... there are clamps holding them on.

One of the previous owners welded them into the rest of the exhaust. I can get a couple pictures, but it looks like they insert into the H-pipe or midpipe, whatever you want to call it, and were welded at the insert point. From what I've measured, I can cut the mufflers off and clamp the Harley mufflers to the flange that gets inserted.
