I just got my first bike a 82 XJ650J Maxim last Wednesday. On Saturday I dumped her in my driveway...=o/

I have a really steep driveway but had ridden up it 2 or 3 times already so I felt "confident", maybe a little too confident. After a great ride I went to come up the driveway but came in a little hot; braked but then popped the clutch and over throttled. I shot up the driveway and started heading towards a planter on the right side, got on the front brake too hard, locked it up, then started to slide. I couldn’t get out from under it fast enough and it landed on my leg. Thank goodness I was able to pull it out quickly and only suffered some bruises and a hurt ego. Unfortunately the little crash broke the clutch lever, the blinker and scratched the engine guard. Glad I got my "first one" out of the way and I definitely learned a lot from it. Once the new clutch lever arrives my first order of business will be practicing hill starts, over and over and over until they're perfect!

You'd be surprised how many new riders drop their bikes real quick. Have heard of it happening on their 1st ride. Be careful, roadrash ain't no fun  ...

When I was a younger man, it could take up to 6 months to get a test date for your bike test. I knew some one who helped at a summer camp for disabled youngsters and the only way he could get there was to go on his bike. (Learner riders cannot use motorways) he wrote to the DVLC and explained so they sent him a test date within 3 weeks.

On the day of his test, he clipped a parked car while the examiner coundn't see, and went to pieces.

    Needless to say he failed!!

My first road rash was on the way to a party, with cans of beer in my jacket. As I pulled up, the front wheel skidded on the gravel and the beers went flying!!!
