I just got an old seat pan for my bike, and was planning to use it as a base for adding a solo seat and luggage rack. Unfortunately, I think it will be more of a hassle than I expected. Then I came across these le pera harley seats, and they are pretty much exactly what I am going for. Looks like the dyna frame is horizontal behind the tank, which would work for an xj650. Anyone have experience fitting a le pera seat or dyna seat? I remember reading about a guy who put a le pera seat on a seca, but I couldn't find any pictures.

Sportster seats are a fairly easy mod on Maxims but not sure about those. Doesn't look like it would be too hard but that's how most projects start. I would head down to a Harlet dealer and ask to look at one. Bring your seat in and compare. I have a solo seat from a VTX 1300c if you're interested. Wide saddle, pretty much brand new. NO TEARS.

It's just a matter of making some kind of front tab to hold the seat down infront and bolting it tothe fender in the rear I presume. I have a Sportster seat on mine and it looks stock and fits perfect. I bolted an aluminum tab to the rear gas tank mount to slide the seat onto. The rubber posts on the bottomof the seat rest on the frame like it was made for the bike. So that being said - if you find a Perela seat or similar, that is made for a Sportster, it should fit.

I just ordered a couple cheap le pera dyna seats-- couldn't find any sportster seats at a good price.

I think the dyna front seat mount is similar to the maxim's, with the tongue-and-groove setup. Hopefully shouldn't be too difficult to get that to work. I wouldn't want to bolt the rear mount to the plastic fender, so I'm guessing that will be the tough part. I'll post when I receive the seats and figure something out.

I ordered the seats from old97choppers.net. Very fast shipping, just got em today. It was $50 each (incl shipping) for a barebones w/gel and a smooth solo for dyna, don't know what years. Don't seem to be used, more like old stock that's been kicking around the store room for a few years. Some old tape residue and a few little tears on the edges, but the price was by far the lowest anywhere. Planning to use some gaffer's tape to cover the tears.

My bike is stuck across town on account of snow, so I haven't tried to fit them yet. Good news is that they are awesome seats-- great craftsmanship. Bad news is that the front mounts are female, so even if it's a clean fit, the mounts will take some work.

ok... the seats are a few inches too long. I was planning to put in a different fender at some point, so maybe they will fit then. or they'll end up on ebay :(
