Leaning A Bike on its Side

    It's never recommended to do this stuff alone, but sometimes needs must.
    Occasionally we are pointed towards doing odd things to repair our bikes in the easiest fashion. I found a brilliant solve today, and I'm so pleased I thought I'd share it with all y'all.

    If you should ever need to lean your bike on it's side, and you are alone, it can be done, with NO harm or injury, to you or to the bike. You still need a relative amount of strength, but if you can pick it up after a fall, you can EASILY do this.

    1. Find an object about 14" high, I used a heavy duty steel tool box, but you can also use a stair, or even (be careful) a milk crate. This is your fulcrum only, and will not bear much weight.

    2. Find a 2 x 12 or similar sturdy board. I used my 2 x 12 bike ramp that I load the bike up with, should it need a ride somewhere.

    3. Position your bike about 3' from the fulcrum.

    4. Place the board end under your bike, closest to the rear tire (trying to avoid pedals or levers if you can) and the other end on top of the fulcrum.

    5. Gently lower the bike toward the board and fulcrum. If you need to, brace the front tire and the board with your feet.

    6. Rest the bike against the board and do a quick stability check. My bike stayed neatly against the board, I could have walked away and had coffee, I would have come back to my bike leaning drunkenly against the board.

    7. Move to the side of the bike that is nearest the board. Take a firm hold and bring it toward you. The board will support the bike, allowing you to bring it down gently.

    8. Commence operating. FYI. I have never had an easier time righting my bike, since it was already up by about a foot.
