Well I finally got around to it....Maintenance!

I spent the good part of the night stripping down my carbs to bare bones. To my surprise they are very clean. Having owned it for 4 years now I figured it was time. I run ethanol and was wondering what I would find on the inside. I'm please to report there is no white film or scaling going on. I've heard many people talk about how ethanol will create problems with carbs. None here.

I think the PO was telling the trith when he said that the carbs had been gone through about 5 months before I bought it. I'm seeing no shellac or gumming anywhere, and the plungers even pass the RickCoMatic clunk test.

My biggist reason for tearing the carbs down is due to poor fuel mileage no matter what fuel I run through it.

Anyway, the carb parts are soaking and will need to wait for a gasket kit from Chacal before they go back together.

The next item on the list is valves. I got the cover off and waiting to head to the parts store to pick up a feeler gauge so I can do the check. Used to have one but have no clue where its at. Wheres a good source for the valve tool? Can I make something that will do the job?

Lastly, when I went to start the bike the other day I found my battery tender toast and the battery as well. I clipped on the other higher amp charger and when I turned on the ignition swith the tach jumped up to 9000 and stayed there....no the engine was not running. The battery would not hold a charge and the starter just clicked away when the start button was pressed.

My question is, would the low battery cause the tach to jump up and stay there or is this a sign of another issue? Will pick up a battery when the carbs and valves are done.

    Thanks guys
