letter designation

    what is the letter designation mean after the size? ie. xj 650g or h or j?

    It's the model year.

    g=1980
    h=1981
    j=1982
    k=1983

    Yours is a J.

    thats what mine is! =) Do the Seca's use two codes at the end? Like XJ750RH (since mines an 81)

    Yes. XJ750H is a 1981 750 Maxim, XJ750RH is a 1981 750 Seca. I believe there were some other special model codes like M for Midnight Maxim also.
