Sometimes it's good to be reminded that we occasionally take ourselves too seriously.....

Well, I guess you've noticed that I'm back, I did a stupid, STUPID, thing and it cost me $270 to get fixed. I'm talkin' about my comPEWter! So learn from my mistake: always, ALWAYS, format your hard drive before you reinstall your operating system. It may not happen to anyone else, but Microsoft has a nasty little surprise for who forgets to FORMAT. The problem is that I'm just enough a geek to be dangerous.

    Ah, XKCD. It'z teh funzors.

Don't forget PEBKAC - Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.

    Nice threadjack.

If one's doing a repair install, that isn't necessary. If a full reinstall, you're given the option to format during the install process. So what was it that managed to get you to spend that kind of money on an OS reinstall?

I guess I bought a pirated version on XP and Microsoft froze up the works, I couldn't even access the bios to format. The tech also told me that my antique hard drive(only 40 gig) was on it's way out and was going to fail soon.

I actually posted it as a ribbing to those who feel its' THEIR duty to point out that someone else is wrong about something.

I've never figured out why they do it. Are they really trying to be helpful? Doubt it, probably just their way of feeling smarter or superior to someone else.

Another fav of mine is the guy with the smallest bike in the crowd, but according to him, his bike is beyond magical and will thrash any bike, of any size because he and he alone knows how to take that tiny bike and extract GODLIKE power from it. I have an idea that all these races that he speaks of are simply situations where the other guy didn't know that littlebike guy was racing, and never opened his throttle....but our friend, when retelling the story later will swear that he ripped the bigger bike a new one......ROTFLMO.

Yes, many of us have run into this guy before, since there are many like him.....but every time I've offered to run against him, on a little, tiny 500cc bike with less cylinders then his, they always have a million reasons why they can't. Sometimes though, sheer embarrassment forces him to agree and when the light turns green, he either spends the next 1320 feet inhaling Klotz smoke or he shuts off in the middle and pretends to have "engine trouble" I'm guessing others have had a similar experience with littlebike guy.

Nice parable Jeff, as many of you know, I have made my share of faux pas. I want everybody to know that my only intention is to help out less experienced riders. Unfortunately, lately, it seems I think I know more than I actually do. Of the things in my life I've lost, I miss my mind the most. I feel I'm beginning my journey down the road of Alzheimers. I'll leave the advice giving to the experts.

Don't sweat it Steve, I actually wasn't thinking of you as either of the "guys"...the director of "right/wrong", or littlebike guy.

We all have times when stress, illness or just plain age seem to be taking more of a toll than usual but don't let it get you depressed or flustered. Stoke up on the B vitamins, spend some time doing something REALLY scary or exhilarating...like riding a really big roller coaster and you'll come out of it refreshed and feeling great again.

If not, you can always look at the bright side.....you'll be able to hide yuor own Easter eggs and you'll never need to buy another book. One will do.

    lol,
    jeff
