Hi I'm new to this site from Dudley in the uk. Recently got my self a 1982 xj650 trike. I'm attempting to work out the bugs on it and decide to check the carbs to see what state there in and discovered there pretty bad striped threads chewed up jets and one of the float arms was snapped. The rest looks salvagable so I'm either looking for a new body or the complete set depending on what my budget will allow me lol. Any help will be appreciated

Do you know if the carbs are the same in the xj 650 as well in the xj 750, 82 models? I have a rack that ive cleaned and replaced bad parts and power coated.

From what I've read there are some differences that make them not suitable but thanks for your reply mate

Actually, the XJ650 (except the Turbo model) and the air-cooled XJ750 models use the same Hitachi HSC32 carb sets, and they are fully interchangeable, besides that the jetting is a bit bigger for the 750 version of the carbs (larger size main fuel jets, different sized air jets, and a different profile for the main jet needle). However, given that most of these bikes are jetted quite lean from the factory (emissions regs of that era; Yamaha met them by drastically leaning out the fuel mixtures) the richer fuel mixture profile for the 750 carbs, when used on a 650 engine, is not such a bad idea. You'll want to reduce the main fuel jet size, as it is really too large for a un-modified 650 engine, and maybe the air jets, but the rest of the carb set will perform just fine, and then you can tinker if you feel the carbs are still a bit rich.
