Guys, I need some imput here.

I'm thinking about using the smaller but starighter XS750 atnk on my XJ750 Seca. I dig the way the XS tank looks, but I had a couple of questions.

I heard that it should mount right on the XJ, but may have to relocate the mounting stud on the frame. Is that true?

Why are there two petcocks on the XS tank? Is it a split tank? If so, do I just run both lines into a T and then to the fuel rail?

    Thanks

I have a XS850 tank, but I don't have a Seca frame to fit it on. I do, however, have a Max750 frame I can test fit it on for you. Seca 750 tank is supposed to be a straight swap for the Max750 tank. So... If A fits on B and C fits on B then A fits on C, right? I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Oh. And it's not a split tank. I believe the twin valves are so that you don't end up losing all the fuel on the other side of the tunnel. Or at least so you don't have to stop and lay the bike on its left side to get those last few litres over to the petcock.

Is the XS750 tank any different from the maxim 750 tank?

Your side covers mount into the Seca tank. They won't match up to the XS tank.
Would you be styling the rest of the bike like the older XS?

TEEing the 2 fuel lines together would be the easiest solution.
Getting a second inlet in your carb rack would be more "proper".

Well, if you're serious about, you've got some work ahead of you. It's not going to be a simple swap. The front mounts on the XS tank are about two inches closer together and quite a bit higher too. And the rear mount is round, but that's not a big deal...

It's a nice looking tank and looks not bad on my Maxim frame, even if it sits maybe just a little bit too high. For the work involved in fitting it, you might want to think about just going with a Seca 650 tank. Not all that much different from the XS tank and pretty much a straight swap.

I took some pictures but I have to apologize for the quality. The GF took the good camera to the Grand Canyon this week so I had to use the crappy old one. The good thing about her being gone this week is that I was able to bring home the little sweetie in the last picture. I haven't been able to take my hands off her all week!

Sorry Dave. If I'd known you were wanting a better pic I woulda put the side covers on for you.

I was hoping to some tuning and tweaking on it today but I just cleaned the air filter and it's not dry yet. Should be fine tomorrow. Btw, I lowered mine a touch. Slapped my Savage shocks on it to bring it down closer to what 30" inseam can handle.

MaximumX: You're a great help. Goes with your user name :)
You saved me a lot of hassle. And $$ LOL

Yep I think I will go with the XJ650 Seca tank, now that I see how this will go. The XS tank is sweet looking though. But I don't have a mig to be messing with it and modifying it right now. But I'll keep it in mind for the future. The XS750 has a starighter frame even where the tank mounts, keeping the angle of the tank straighter. The angle on ours is greater on the Xj's where the tank mounts. Oh well.. :(

What kind of exhaust is that on your bike BTW? is it nice an loud? throaty? ricer? in between?

    Time to ride:

I already removed the old seat and am in the middle of turning my bike into a cafe racer bike. I will be making new side panels when I get the chance. or modyfying what I have to fit my 750 tank for now.

BTW thanks for the tip on the fuel lines.
