So I've got a spare gas tank but no key ... No idea if VIN or key #.

How can I get the gas cap off?

Locksmith or a drill I would guess. If you aren't trying to same the gas cap go with the drill.

does the person who sold you the tank still have the old key or ignition switch?
you could ask for the key number off of the key or on the underside of the ignition switch.
you could have a lock smith pick it and make you a key for it, or try to pick it your self if it is not frozen, you can buy pick kits cheep on line or for a little more buy a pick gun

You need one of these. Can't count number of times it comes in handy
Just don't get caught with one unless you are locksmith or licenced mechanic

It's actually legal for any citizen to own lock picks in the U.S. It's the maner in which you use them that will get you into trouble.

I'll backtrack a bit. There are states that prohibit just anyone from owning them, and also some cities even in states that allow it.

As to where to get them, just do a google search and start browsing.

Bah. Lock picks are for things that you care about. A decent hammer will get you into pretty much any house or vehicle.
Oh wait, this thread is about gas tanks, not B n E! Disregard that! All I use my hammers for is ZOMBIE KILLING!
