Hello All! I was hoping someone could help me. I have a Maxim 550 and I ordered a MAC exhaust for it. I've put the header half on but am having some questions with the rear half. It looks like I have to grind off part of the center stand? Also I don't know where to bolt the rear hanger? It was ordered new and came with no instructions. Any pics or comments would help. Also anyone know of any good mechanics in the Chicagoland area. I need some carb work.

    Thanks for you time,

    Graig

    Welcome to you Graig.
Most folks just drop the center stand entirely. If you want to keep the center stand, fork up the money for a quality exhaust.
Check out the Shop recommendations forum for possible help in your area.

Graig, fwiw, my 1982 XJ650 didnt have the centerstand removed and had a Mac 4:1 installed when i bought it. The pipe goes wide to the right f the centerstand, then the muffler continues the sweep and mounts to the rear footpeg with the supplied hanger. The Maxim 550 may be different though. When I installed my Kerker, that was a different story, the pipe literally ran through the space formerly occupied by the centerstand between the mounting points. Welcome to the fourum, lots of good people and great info available here, cruzerjd

As cruzerjd said - it's odd that the 550 exhaust requires removal of the centerstand, as MAC is known for making their exhausts to retain access to oil filter & your centerstand. My 650 as well has a MAC 4-into-1 on it, and no problems with it.

Great info guys!! I think I'm going to love this forum!! The bike is currently in my dad's garage and I live about 70 miles away. I'm going to go check it out this Friday and double check everything. If anyone has a pic of what it looks like on there bike installed feel free to email it to me at graig50@yahoo.com. Any additional info would be great too. The more comments the more I learn.

    Thanks!

Ok fellows, my 550 ignorance is glaring here. I have only dealt with the 650 and 750 XJs with any regularity. The exhausts I've seen (aftermarket) have not allowed the use of a centerstand. I Ass-u-ME-d that all bikes similarly framed would have similar problems. Pardon my error. However I am glad to hear that someone does make a system that allows the retention of the centerstand. There is hope after all.
