Main Fuel Jet

    The 82 XJ 550 RJ I just got was fouling plugs 1, 2, and 4. I had cleaned the carburator and found that it was missing the pilot air jets completely. I got new ones and installed them and now it is worse. I was told that someone was probably racing the bike and it had been altered to run wide open or nothing. I took the carbs off to check the main fuel jets. When I had cleaned the carbs I could not get the main jet in 3 out because it turned. It is the only one that is not fouling. I was looking for the number on the main jet but the only one I can find says 342-B is this a part number or is it a jet off of something else? I think I should just replace all the jets with original jets. Any idea on what the number means or where on the jet I should find the size number?

    The one that wouldn't come out is due to the emulsion tube turning in the carb body (you need to remove the e-tubes from all the bodies to clean by the way).

    You can hold it still by holding a chisel handle/bit of broom handle etc upright in a vice and sitting the carb upside down on it, so the end of the wood pushes against the top of the e-tube. Then you should be able to get the jet out of that carb at least.

    When the main jets are out, some e-tubes just drop out, others (likely the dirtiest ones) need a careful punch to push them out through the needle (top) end.

    I've never seen 342-B on a main jet before :? The size should be on the slot end of the jet, looking up at you when you open the float bowl
