I have a 1982 XJ Maxim and I hooked up a charger to the battery on the bike to recharge the battery. I think that was a mistake because when the bike was running notice some smoking near the starter relay and when I opened the fuse panel, I noticed the main fuse has rosin leaking from the glass where end caps meet. Any suggestions of what the problem could be? I need help!!!!! :?:

EEEK! Need a new fuse block pronto! The fuse blocks on our venerable XJs are a known problem. After decades of duty, the corrosion monster takes their lunch money and effectively destroys them. I'm betting that the high resistance, corroded contacts on the fuse block couldn't take it any more and they started to get REALLY hot.
Contact our resident XJ parts guru, Chacal. He'll get you fixed up right. There is also a great How To with pictures posted by one of our members (I hope someone will post the link for you if you can't find it).
    Best of luck to you!
