Alabama has a new way to enforce manditory insurance. Have to have insurance "proof" to renew a Tag (license plate). Getting too expensive for me to keep my three bikes unless I get Antique tags for each and that has it's built in problems as well. And for you "perfect citizens", just save the "You aughta always have blah blah" coments. I already know what a menace to the public I am. Sufferin from Exsanguinated Turnip syndrome here! Hope they don't find out I got an un-licensed riding lawn mower that's uninsured :p .

Here in Ga all insurance has to be in the system or no tags. If your insurance runs out you have to pay a fine to have your suspended license re instated they do not bother to tell you its suspended if you do not turn in your tag .Both My yamaha rds run $75 a year each maxim x is 120 a year Less then 25 a month for all 3

Are you sure that grass is the legal height? LOL You don't have to show proof of license, insurance or inspection to get your tags in Mississippi: YET.
But if I put my car/truck on a jack or park in the yard for more than 30 minutes, there will be a sticker placed on it from the local Police, but it's okay for my neighbor to have his non-running truck parked in the same place on the street for the last 5 years as long as the tires hold air.

But in regards for ins. just thank your lucky stars you don't live in canada, insurance rates up there are INSANE. I bet a few northern birds will chime in shortly.

Antique tags work pretty well here as we don't get a full season of riding anyhow, although I just have regular tags on my bike.

tags here are 25$ for two years, or 70 for an antique plate that never expires. So as long as you have the bike for more than 6 years it pays for itself. I think thats what I'm going to do for the XS when I finish it.

Insurance (liability) is mandatory here in WI, i believe it's a good thing, but what sucks is there's still tons of people that drive around without it.

But I pay just about 21$ a month for my maxim, with 500k coverage all around. Im sure it would be less if I was older or the bike was smaller, but for a 750cc bike and being 21, I'm pretty happy with paying what I do.

I have thought about switching to progressive as my buddy pays only like 100$ a year for full coverage, but when it comes down to something happening, i dont ever want to doubt if the ins co will cover it, as I've always had american family and thats what my folks have all of their home and auto insurance through.

I've had my auto and motorcycle policies with Progressive for 10 years. They have been wonderful to work with, and have never shorted me on a claim, or pressured me to accept substandard repairs.

FWIW there is no such thing as "full coverage". A motorcyclist can never have too much coverage. Buy as much above the mandated minimums as you can afford to, especially if you own a house or have a family. We're all one bad accident away from losing everything we've worked for.

agreed there, all my medical is maxed out at 500k, and then i pay extra to have the motorcycle ins cover my health insurance deductible if i need it to.

What i meant by full coverage was his covers his bike, mine unfortunately does not. The way that I look at it though, I could always find another XJ for the cost of what i would pay into insurance over a couple years.

I use Haggerty Classic Car insurance. Their rates are great but must keep your bike in a garage. I have a 69 Firebird that costs about $100 a year and seven motorcycles on it that cost about $100 combined.

In my county in Tennessee a motorcycle regristration costs $72 a year. If the bike is 25years old it is a one time fee of $25 for antique plates. Half of my bikes have antique plates.

My insurance here in NZ is $200.00 per year, but I do have a choice to have it or not; I choose to have it. Its the registration that hurts, anything over 600cc is close on $600.00 per year! plus we have to get a WOF (warrent of fitness) every 6 months to make sure the bike is road worthy; thats probably a good thing when you see some of the crap out on the road.

Just because your retired doesn't mean that you can't do anything fun.
I haven't let my medical problems stop me, I've built 2 guitars and 3 amps. It took me a year and a half to do it, but I had and am still having fun. Best part is, no insurance cost, tags, registration or inspections. YET!
