    Hi guys,

I have a '81 550 Seca, 18,700 miles, the had been out of commission for 19 years. I am afraid of going up to 7000 RPM in case something breaks.
Any suggestion how to re-'brake-in' a bike like this.
I had most of the major work done, so that the engine actually runs decently.

    Thx :?

7k? These bikes were made to run at high rpm's, 7k is nothing. :D

In proper tune and maint performed, valves checked?

You haven't even awoken the beast at 7K.

    Max Power

    Max Torque

Thanks guys, just worried that the engine, sitting for 18 years might go into shock when asked to go to those RPMs
I actually like this bike and don't want to break after a few miles
    thx again 8O

Peak power from a 550 Seca is at redline, 10K. I run both of mine to 10K all the time; but they're in a proper state of tune.

Once the motor is in a proper state of tune (valves in spec, float levels in spec, sync'ed, etc.) you won't hurt it at all redlining it with regularity.

You might want to hold off on winding it quite that tight until everything's in spec tho.

Be sure the valves are in spec, the camchain's adjusted and you're not running lean and then ROMP on it! These motors are actually "happier" ABOVE 6K once properly tuned.
