No, this really is a dumb question. Will the gas tank and side covers from a Seca fit on a Maxim? It would be cool to own two bikes in one. Years ago I asked this question and got burnt from all the flames! The reason I'm asking is because I used to own a Honda I could do this with.

    Take care,
    Casey

I don't know why anyone would want to turn a Maxim into a Seca. The Maxim looks a lot more retro than a seca... it has that sorta 'chopper look'.

    But maybe I'm slightly biased....

That's funny I was just thinking the opposite, lol. To me it seems like there a million "chopper look a likes" on the road, and very few bikes that look like the Seca.
The Maxim and Seca tanks are matched to their respective seats (which are quite different) so you generally cant replace one without the other.
As far as the side covers, are you talking about the plastic side panels, or the aluminum "YICS" engine covers? The engine covers are the same, the plastic panels are quite different.

I'm talking about the plastic side covers. I wouldn't change the bike because I like a Seca more then a Maxim. I am just wondering if the switch could be done, sorta like changing my cruiser into a sport bike, having the option to do so.

    Take care,
    Casey

I'm pretty sure it would change, I've been told the frame is the same, and so should be the mounts. But like it has been said you would have to change the seat also, but do the seat the tank and the sides, slap some flat bars on it and bam, nice lil cafe look. Good luck

Thats funny because i was wondering if you could change the rear fenders from a maxim to a seca. I have owned 3 XJ550'S and the only thing i don't like about them is the semi dove tail fender on the rear.

Well you could always get some sheet metal and make you own fender, or undertail just a thought.

The flat (Superbike) bars may be a problem. My Maxim's handle bars fasten to the top clamp by two splines. Maybe clip ons?

Could work, the maxim has a diff way the bars are held ob by? Huh didn't know that. Clip ons would be cool, I have been toying with that idea.
