I finished the total rewire of my chopper today and I pulled the regulator and ignitor to clean them. That's when I noticed on the back side of the regulator, were the words 1982 Seca 400. Obviously, this was a used replacement part a previous owner must have put in. Just wondering if it was interchangeable with the 85 Maxim-X. Either it is or the part was labelled wrong by the junkyard or wherever they got it from. Regardless, my ride works great with this part but I'm now concerned about this...help?

If it is running well I don't think I would give it another thought if I were you. Just enjoy the dickens out of it.

Well, according to the XJCD, the 400 has a part number of 3G0-89160-xx-xx (or is that 360? Kinda hard to read...), and the 700X has a part number of 12R-81960-xx-xx; ergo, at first blush, they do appear to be at least related, if not the same.

BTW, *was* there an '82 400? XJCD says it's an 81.

Hey...I'll take your advice and enjoy the ride!! Although the writing on the back indicated that it was from an 82, the salvage yard could have had it wrong. This site rocks!!

As a thought, many 83 Maxim 400 parts start with 12R- and share with a Seca
