My Maxim runs just fine (I think) until she heats up (about to the white space in the temp gauge). Then anytime I come to a stop, she idles lower and lower until she dies. I can try to rev it too keep it running, but this doesn't always work and it makes the engine even hotter. It isn't overheating... I spit on the fins and there's no sizzle... can't be too hot. It stalls both in gear with the clutch in and in Neutral. Sometimes it will start right back up, but the other day it left me stranded in 95 degree heat on the side of a busy road while I waited for it to cool down. Choke makes no difference in keeping it running or restarting it after it dies. What is my issue here? Mixture changes as temperature rises? Coils heat up and crap out? I've read through some other threads, but no one has had the exact same issue. Thanks!

coils can crap out when they get hot I had a one on an old chevy that did that. pull your plugs and see what they say are they black, tan, white? I would think you are running rich if the enrichment makes no difference. And yes temp and humidity both effect mixture cold air is more dense than hot air. Also check your vacuum line to the petcock and make sure that it fits snug and has no holes in it. check your air filter for any obstructions as well. How high does it idle when cold?? Does the bike bog if you grab full throttle from idle or is it smooth all the way?

if it wont idle then its usually the pilot jets or the pilot adjustment screws, probably the jets have got gummed up, you can adjust the pilot screws out a smidgen and see if it idles any better and that will tell you something

I finally had time to pull the plugs today. I haven't had the bike out since early June when it decided to leave me stranded. The battery is now dead... it could just be old... or it could indicate an electrical issue. Anywho, the plugs are a nice clean tan color. There was a bit of corrosion on one at the top and one was a bit moist (gas or condensation, not oil). Is there any way to clean the jets without pulling the carb rack? I've done this before on other bikes and it's a horrible pain. Plus, I'm technically not supposed to service my vehicles in the parking lot of the complex where I live. Anyone know a good inexpensive mechanic near DC?
