I cleaned the carbs on my wife's bike for the first time. KZ440 LTD. It has mikuni carbs. I found them pretty simple to work on compared to the hitachi ones on my XJ650RJ. What do you guys think mikuni or hitachi.

I Love the Mikuni carbs on my XJ650LK.
Turbo bikes have a special set of carbs that are built to be pressurized. Mikuni made 'em for the XJ650 turbo model only, but I don't see why they wouldn't also work on a normally aspirated XJ650, too. They work in "normal" mode when off boost anyway.
You can find 'em on eBay every once in a while.

    Mikuni's are my preference.

I like the way you don't have much to do ... to really prep them for all you can get out of them.

They are made so well, you could probably just put all the parts you take-out, when you are doing a Full House-Cleaning, and put them in one pile.

The Alloy for the Body's is Bright and Pure and the Castings are nit-picked for excellence.

25-year old Carbs can be cleaned to make them look like they were made yesterday.
You can put a finish on the Diaphragm Piston Bores that would have a NASA Engineer nodding his satisfaction.

Due to my recent need of a 36.5 pilot jet for a hitashi carb. (No one still makes them by the way. ) I would say the mikuni's are the way to go. At least you can still find parts for them.

So Im a little new to all this bike carb stuff. From what Ive read my bike (see signiture) has a Hitashi carb stock. If say I wanted to but on a mikuni how would I go about finding the right one? Is it model specific or are they pretty general?
